Not Your Average Joe Race

On the evening of December 29, 2009, Dr. Joe Gibson was struck and killed by a car while out with his wife on a training run. Dr. Gibson was an emergency room physician here in the valley. Joe as a young man always wanted to find a way to give back to his community. He found his way to do that through emergency medicine. He also was an avid reader of comic books. With a childlike enthusiasm, Joe was interested in the moral challenges and responsibilities the superhero faced in order to protect the people around them. Even after his death, Joe continued to give the gift of life through organ donation in which he helped to save the lives of 4 people.

The Joe Gibson Memorial Foundation was founded to continue what Dr. Gibson always believed in and promoted. It is dedicated to promoting healthy lifestyles and supporting emergency medicine. The Foundation is hosting the first annual "Not Your Average Joe" 10k run/walk and 10k run/walk relay and 1 mile fun run/obstacle course. The race is scheduled for October 16, 2010 at Banner Ironwood Hospital at 37000 Gantzel Rd. in San Tan Valley. All proceeds from this race will go to benefit local first responders and EMS. Please visit our website at www.joegibsonrace.com to register for the race or if you have an interest in sponsoring the race. Be a superhero and get involved.
